Music mixing & basics of mastering with iZotope plugins

Prerequisite

Basic audio knowledge, familiarity with Pro Tools and general plugin workflows.

More details

This online training is designed to give attendees a basic overview of the process of approaching the mix of a pop song using iZotope plugins. Once a basic mix has been set up, we will look at the process of creating a master file for delivery using iZotope Ozone 9. The use of high-quality speakers or headphones is highly recommended to listen to the nuances of the audio being played back during the session.

Plugins used: Neutron 3, Nectar 3, Vocal Synth, Insight 2, Tonal Balance Control, Ozone 9

  • Learn and understand using the Neutron 3 Advanced intelligent channel-strip. Use it in a manual mode, or use mix-assistant to quickly get a direction to take forward your mix.
  • Use Nectar to correct pitch, shape vocals and create harmonies. Aided by machine learning-based intelligence baked into the plugin, quickly identify problem areas and get fast results with vocal-assistant.
  • Learn to meter with ease using Insight 2. Investigate masking and get deep information on level and frequencies across various elements of your session with inter-plugin-communication using Relay.
  • Create vocal textures or other-worldly sounds with Vocal Synth. Perfect for pop, electronic or sound design in visual media related audio.
  • Monitor and measure energy distribution by frequencies in your mix against a large variety of music tracks from most major genres of music and see if you fit the tonality expected for the genre with Tonal Balance Control.
  • Mastering your track/mix with Ozone 9 – Understand concepts of mastering like tonal match & average level across tracks, meeting a target frequency distribution per genre – tonal balance, meeting loudness requirements for delivery, creating glue across elements of your mix with multiband processing.
