Powering a Global Nightlife Landmark: LORD OF THE DRINKS (LOD), Kathmandu
Ansata and d&b audiotechnik scale an arena-style club sound system for one of the world’s top-ranked nightclubs
Setting the Scene
Located in the heart of Kathmandu, LORD OF THE DRINKS Nepal, widely known as LOD has redefined what nightlife means in Nepal. Nudging into its seventh year, LOD has achieved what few clubs in the region have: positioning Kathmandu firmly on the global electronic music map.
Designed as an arena-style club, LOD places the DJ at the centre of the action, surrounded by a high-energy dance floor, immersive lighting, and a hydraulic rigging system that is the first of its kind in Nepal. The venue regularly hosts packed nights, trapeze performances, and large-scale EDM events, while also remaining deeply committed to promoting emerging Nepali talent alongside international headliners.
The balance between global ambition and local identity has earned LOD sustained international recognition. Over consecutive years, it has steadily climbed global club rankings, culminating in a Top 50 global position and a #44 ranking in 2025, placing it among the most respected nightlife venues worldwide.

The Solution
Working closely with system integrator Shashindra Chitrakar and Ansata’s Live Sound Product Manager Avaneesh Darbe, the LOD sound system was designed strategically to ensure possibilities for scaling.
Original System: A Strong Foundation
The initial configuration designed by Ansata already positioned LOD at the top tier of South Asian club installations, featuring:
- Vi10P loudspeakers
- Vi-SUB and Vi-GSUB subwoofers
- E6 loudspeakers
- d&b 30D amplifiers
This system was later repurposed as fills and supplementary coverage, ensuring continuity and efficient use of existing infrastructure when the upgrade came in.
System Upgrade: Scaling for Global Headliners
To meet the demands of international artists and large-scale EDM events, the main system was significantly enhanced:
- Vi12 and Vi8 loudspeakers were introduced as the primary main hangs, delivering higher output and extended throw
- B22 subwoofers were added to increase low-frequency impact and physical energy on the dance floor
- Yi10P loudspeakers deployed for precision reinforcement and zoning
- d&b 40D amplifiers providing increased headroom, advanced DSP, and long-term operational stability
This hybrid approach allowed LOD to achieve arena-level power and control, while maintaining a coherent sonic signature throughout the club.
The Result
Today, LORD OF THE DRINKS operates with a world-class club sound system that fully supports its global standing. The sonic experience is powerful, and tightly controlled, capable of delivering the intensity demanded by EDM and techno, while remaining musical and consistent across the entire venue.
Artists such as Alok, Timmy Trumpet, VINAI, Ayo & Teo, and other global performers take the stage with confidence, supported by a system that meets international rider expectations. At the same time, local Nepali artists benefit from the same professional platform, reinforcing LOD’s role as both a global destination and a cultural catalyst.
The installation stands as a clear example of how thoughtful system evolution can elevate a venue to the highest international standards technically, culturally, and experientially.
