Sound for Learning and Performance: Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School Auditorium, Mumbai
Ansata and d&b audiotechnik deliver a refined, future-ready sound system for an educational performance space

Professional Sound Systems for Auditoriums and Performance Venues
Designing sound systems for auditoriums and performance venues requires a careful balance of speech intelligibility, musical clarity, and even coverage across every seat. Whether used for assemblies, theatre, lectures, or live performances, professional auditorium audio systems must deliver consistent sound, controlled directivity, and sufficient headroom without overwhelming the space.
Thoughtfully designed audio systems for performance venues ensure that voices remain clear, music retains its impact, and audiences experience the same quality of sound from front row to back, supporting engagement, learning, and artistic expression in equal measure and aiming to achieve democracy for listeners.
Setting the Scene
Located in Mumbai, the Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School is known for its progressive approach to education, where academics, arts, and co-curricular learning are given equal importance. At the heart of this philosophy lies the school auditorium, a space designed to host assemblies, student performances, lectures, cultural programs, and visiting productions.
For a young audience, sound quality plays a crucial role in engagement and comprehension. Whether it is a speech during assemblies or music and drama on stage, the auditorium required an audio system that could deliver clarity, consistency, and scale, while remaining intuitive and reliable for daily use.
Ansata was engaged to design a professional sound solution that would support the school’s present needs and grow with it over time.

The Challenge
Designing audio for a school auditorium involves a unique balance of performance and practicality.
The system needed to:
- Deliver high speech intelligibility for assemblies and speech based programs
- Support musical and theatrical performances with adequate headroom and tonal balance
- Provide even coverage across the entire area
- Offer reliable monitoring for performers on stage
- Integrate a robust audio network suitable for modern workflows
- Remain simple and dependable for regular operation in an educational environment
The goal was to create a system that sounds consistent and engaging, without requiring complex operation or constant technical oversight.
The Solution
Ansata designed a sound system centred around the proven d&b audiotechnik Yi-Series, well suited for auditoriums that demand clarity, control, and scalability.
The main audience coverage is handled by a combination of Yi8 and Yi12 loudspeakers, delivering uniform SPL and precise directivity across the seating area. Their controlled dispersion ensures that speech remains articulate and music retains definition from the front rows to the back of the hall.
Low-frequency support is provided by Yi-SUBs, adding depth and impact for musical performances while remaining controlled and balanced for speech-centric events. To maintain tonal consistency and coverage in nearfield and specific zones, 44S loudspeakers are deployed as front fills.
Onstage, M4 monitors provide accurate and reliable monitoring for performers, supporting confidence and performance quality during live events.
System power and processing are handled by d&b 40D amplifiers, offering ample headroom, advanced DSP, and long-term reliability. A DS10 Network Bridge enables Dante-based audio networking, ensuring clean signal distribution and compatibility with contemporary AV infrastructures.
The Result
The auditorium at Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School now benefits from a clear, balanced, and versatile sound environment that supports a wide range of educational and cultural activities. Speech is intelligible and natural, music feels controlled and engaging, and performances are experienced consistently from every seat.
For students, the system enhances learning and creative expression. For faculty and operators, it offers reliability and ease of use. The installation reflects how professional audio design can meaningfully support education, creating spaces where ideas, performances, and voices are heard clearly and confidently.
